The founders met during the 2020 pandemic after Councilwoman Reneé Johnson connected them through text after Joshua Mason and Pruthu Patel led UNC Charlotte’s largest peaceful protest while Kaiylah Wallace and Leslie Hunter worked abroad on Breonna Taylor’s campaign & locally with officials
After exchanging numbers, the guys made a group chat, hopped on FaceTime and in days, were excited to throw their first Tent City event but still didn’t have a group name. So the four hopped on one more FaceTime, Googled synonyms for “repair”, laughing & sifting, before finally voting on “revamp”
